Koroko ‘Kori’ Reay-Mackey
Creative Director & Lead Videographer
As Creative Director and Lead Video, Kori Reay-Mackey drives the cinematic vision for BASE MGMT. He crafts emotive, narrative-driven work defined by a simple belief: the most powerful visual is an authentic human performance.
This approach has earned significant industry recognition across genres. His direction for the Oasis / Salvation Army campaign won a Silver Skull at the PADC Awards, proving his ability to deliver commercially impactful work. In music, his videos have been celebrated nationally, with his work for Bad Weather earning a WA Screen Award nomination and selections at both the Clipped Music Video Festival and MTV Upload, alongside features on ABC's RAGE.
Kori now applies that same award-winning focus on story and performance to branded content, helping businesses connect with their audiences on a deeper, more human level.
Best Perth Live Music Memory?
Honestly, it was the Slipknot concert back in 2008! They were supported by Machine Head and played at the Robinson Pavilion in Bassendean. Slipknot was one of those gateway bands into a whole new genre/world of music for me. Seeing them live with a group of my friends felt like a culmination of sorts; a payoff to years of music exploration. You don't really forget a show like theirs!
All-Time Favourite Music Video? (the one you’ve watched way too many times!)
It's probably Flying Lotus's music video for "Coronus, The Terminator", directed by Young Replicant/Alex Takacs. It enters this dreamlike world between life and death; it's very surreal but also feels so recognisable at the same time. It compliments the eerie vocal work in the music so perfectly. I'm also a massive fan of Hiro Murai, who directed the incredible "This Is America" video for Childish Gambino. It's too hard to pick just one music video as a favourite, but those are definitely up there!
Your Go-To Tip for Breaking Into Your Industry?
Filmmaking is a team sport. And it's far more blue-collar than what a lot of people realise. It's incredibly important to find "your people" and create together; work towards the kinds of stories you want to tell with people also interested in helping you tell it. Look after them when you have the chance to, be endlessly curious, and (especially in Perth) you need to be more well-rounded across a number of skills. We're too small of a city to be specialised in only one area!
Your Best WA Music Deep Cut? Could be a venue, a band, or an unforgettable gig story.
I'm showing my age here, but some of my favourite WA music memories to this day are tearing up the mosh pit at HQ to Mandalay Victory. Good times!
