Best Perth Live Music Memory?
I have to go with the one that’s freshest in my brain which is Mannequin Pussy at Rosie. There was a moment when the vocalist called for everyone in the crowd to take a big, deep breath and let out a primal scream. I think I really needed to scream like that with 400 other people on a Thursday night; it felt cathartic. The whole show was electric and so very memorable.
All-Time Favourite Music Video? (the one you’ve watched way too many times!)
I’m not even sure this is that great of a music video but American Boy by Estelle was one of my favourites, mostly because I saw it on Rage for the first time one Saturday morning with my dad, and we were obsessed with it after that. Will have to rewatch and tell you if it’s as great as I am romancising it to be.
Your Go-To Tip for Breaking Into Music Management?
Put yourself out there, and say yes to (mostly) everything because you never know where you’ll end up! Several of the oppotunities I’ve recieved have just been from me being willing to put my hand up, volunteering my time at live music events and going out to gigs and meeting people. Getting involved in your community is the most valuable thing you can do if you’re trying to gain a career in music.
Your Best WA Music Deep Cut? Could be a venue, a band, or an unforgettable gig story.
I was talking with someone about long forgotten Perth venues and they reminded me about Jimmy’s Den in northbridge! I only ever went there the one time - it was 2015 and I was a wee checky 16yo, trying to pull a sneaky on my parents to go to Jimmy’s to see The Last Dinosaurs. They found out, of course, and I got to see 10 minutes of Last Dinosaurs before I was dragged home & grounded for a month. Worth every second!
